Do you know who drinks the most coffee? No, not your colleague at the office who always has a mug in hand.
A survey conducted on 20,000 employees (January–March 2025) uncovered a bittersweet truth: journalists and people in media drink more coffee than any other profession. On average, they go through more than 3 cups a day. In second place are healthcare workers, where coffee inevitably blends with long shifts and immense stress.
Other jobs where coffee is non-negotiable? Police officers, drivers, teachers, executives, and IT specialists all admit their day doesn’t run without at least one or two coffees. On the other hand, there are also professions where coffee is more of an occasional treat than a daily habit.
But here’s the funny part: marketers, although they don’t drink that much, end up spending the most on coffee. Probably not for the quantity, but for flat whites with oat milk and Pumpkin Spice Lattes. And speaking of oat milk: plant-based alternatives are starting to conquer more and more offices, even in places we wouldn’t expect.
And where does Romania stand in all this?
Even though we don’t yet have a ranking by profession, the numbers show we’re a nation of serious coffeelovers. In 2023 we consumed 61,000 tons of coffee, and by 2028 we’ll reach 65,000 tons. That’s a modest +1% per year, but enough to prove our morning ritual isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Even though coffee prices have gone up this year, Romanians are choosing more and more often premium espresso, capsules, or specialty coffee. In short, we prefer less, but better.
If we were to adapt the British ranking to Romania, it’s likely that journalists, media professionals, IT specialists, doctors, and teachers would still top the chart. Deadlines, night shifts, early-morning meetings – they all demand a shot of energy.
We promise that at Connecting Careers you’ll find people stronger than your morning espresso.
